Einer Rubio is fifth in the general classification of the Giro d'Italia after two hard first stages in which the first differences have been created. The Colombian climber of Movistar Team was eleventh and won a stage in the Corsa Rosa 2023 and it is clear that he is coming for more this year.
In statements to his team, the native of Chíquiza confessed to have felt good, to have had good feelings throughout the preseason, he is happy with the work done, he hopes that Fernando Gaviria can win one of the 3 sprint stages that are coming now and then from the weekend it will be his turn to try to shine:
"We have been able to do a good job since the beginning of the season and now we can see the results. We have to try to continue like this, in this line, the Giro has just started," he said following yesterday's summit finish in Oropa, where he finished eighth on the day, 30 seconds down on Tadej Pogacar. He now sits fifth in the overall classification, 54 seconds down.
"The fact of being there is a privilege, we have to try to do our best, be there, be smart and try to have a good race. Now we have three important days to try to help Fernando [Gaviria], hopefully we can get the victory. Later on I will try to do it myself".
