Good news finally emerge from the INEOS Grenadiers camp, as after a month of rehabilitation and recovery, Egan Bernal seems to have finally overcome his knee injury.
Having crashed on the opening stage of the Vuelta a San Juan, Bernal saw himself in a difficult position, having to abandon the race in the final stage after showing great signs of improvement on the queen stage where he raced to fourth. Team DS Xabier Zandio assured the injury was unrelated to his 2022 accident, however as the weeks passed tension accumulated.
Bernal postponed his return to Europe and missed out on the Vuelta a Andalucia. Then Paris-Nice was also ruled out. As the Colombian ambitions to be at his best level for the Tour de France, he's missing out on opportunities to prove his worth this spring as his form must have taken a meaningful hit with several weeks off the bike.
However the Colombian has confirmed in an Instagram livestream that he plans on flying back to Europe within 10 days. His first race on the calendar has been hinted to be the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, however it is not impossible for him to try and get back to his original schedule which included the Volta a Catalunya - although he must not carry the same ambitions.
