Dorian Godon crushes rivals to win the Giro del Veneto: "I have a good punch, I worked hard and the finish was perfect"

Although no one put him in the betting as a clear favourite, the truth is that his victory in De Brabantse Pijl suggested that Dorian Godon could be one of the favourites to win the Giro del Veneto.

The AG2R Citroën Team rider got a better feeling from his theoretical leader Benoit Cosnefroy, took responsibility in the final part and took the win: "Yes, with a great job by the team, they controlled the breakaway until 5 kilometres from the end and then they took me to the sprint. With two laps to go I told them that I felt really good and I swapped for Benoit Cosnefroy. So I did the sprint that I like, fifty seconds at full gas, it was a perfect finish."

Taking a victory ahead of riders of great quality like Marc Hirschi was something to be expected in a race like today's because of its characteristics. Now the team will try to close the season by winning the Veneto Classic on Sunday:

"I have a good punch, I worked a lot, there was a period when I felt really bad, it was shitty a few days ago, but I was able to win. Now we'll go for the Veneto Classic on Sunday to try to get another win, it's difficult for me, but we have a good hand with Benoit and Andrea."
