Demi Vollering was the major protagonist of this spring season. Demi didn't slow down at all after triumphing at Strade Bianche and Dwars door Vlaanderen, as the 26-year-old went on to dominate the Ardennes classics - taking home Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège victory, achieving a feat only her current coach, Anna van der Breggen achieved previously.
Vollering had already won Liège-Bastogne-Liège in 2021, so she knew she could do it. "When planning ahead of this season, I was focused a lot on Amstel," she admitted in an extensive interview with De Tribune. "That was the big goal, but La Flèche and Liège are also very nice races, where I wanted to be very good."
"When I won Amstel, it was a very good feeling. La Flèche was actually a bit of a bonus and then of course I really wanted to finish it off in Liège." It was an unusual situation for Vollering. "It's an opportunity that you don't get very often and then you want to grab it with all your might. I was a lot more nervous than usual. I also slept worse the night before Liège."
What's next on the menu for Vollering? Demi will be lining up to the start of La Vuelta Femenina next Monday in Torrevieja, where she'll face huge expectations after spectacular spring campaign.
