BORA-hansgrohe have confirmed their squad for the upcoming
Volta ao Algarve in Portugal, with
Sergio Higuita and Daniel Felipe Martínez leading the line for the team in the battle for the general classification, along with
Jordi Meeus who will hoping to be competitive in the sprints.
The rest of the team is composed of
Bob Jungels,
Marco Haller, Maximilian Schachmann and their new signing Alexander Hajek, with all of them likely to fall into a domestique role for this race.
This team has already raced together in two races this season at the Vuelta a Murcia and the Clasica de Almería. In Murcia, Sergio Higuita achieved a sixth place result on a hilly course, whilst in Almería Jordi Meeus finished eighth in the sprint finish.
Having won last year’s edition while riding for INEOS Grenadiers, Daniel Felipe Martínez will have the number one on his back at this year’s race and will be hoping to defend his title with a similar performance.
Schachmann is another rider with a strong history at this race, as he finished second overall behind Remco Evenepoel in 2020, whilst Sergio Higuita is a former stage winner, having won on the Alto do Malhão in 2022.
In an interview with the team ahead of the race, sporting director Christian Pömer said “even though we have last year’s winner in Dani, we know the high-calibre line-up for the Algarve. We are aiming for a top position in the GC and a stage win”.
