The Volta a Comunitat Valenciana begins this Wednesday the 4th of February and with it come a whole array of stars. With some mild weather, difficult stages and roads that are close to his home in Spain, it was no a difficult choice for
Remco Evenepoel who selected this five-day race as his opening stage-race of the year, where he will be leading
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe.
The Belgian comes in with good form and as the man to beat. The route features an individual time trial on the second day of racing with 17 kilometers in distance where he will be the absolute favourite; but in the stages that involve climbing he is not lagging behind in any way, as shown by his
recent victories at the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana and Trofeo Andratx.
Evenepoel is off to a very strong start to the season and despite the strong competition, which involves amongst others João Almeida, there is no doubt that he begins the race as the rider with the best chances of winning the overall classification. This is supported by the fact that he brings in a luxurious lineup to support him in the hilly stages.
Giulio Pellizzari will be teaming up with the Belgian for the first time and will be a key support rider for the climbs, whilst Aleksandr Vlasov himself was a former winner of this race back in 2022 and could provide the same deal of support. Giovanni Aleotti and Ben Zwiehoff's presence is also focused around this very goal.
The lineup is concluded by Arne Marit, recent winner of the Trofeo Palma who has here in the opening stage a chance to take a victory; and Emil Herzog who will be supporting him on this day, as well as being a domestique for the team's needs in all terrains throughout the week.
