Later, he made the decision to fall back into the main group of riders and relinquish his efforts to catch Goossens.“A few kilometres later, five other riders were able to catch up. On the descent of the Coll de Sóller, Goossens joined them. I was the only one able to follow him after that. I really had to give everything to keep up with him, and unfortunately, I got tired and had to let go. Until the finish, I kept giving alone, but at kilometres from the line I still got caught back,” concluded Uijtdebroeks.
Uijtdebroeks has not had the strongest start to his season, with a 42nd-place finish at Trofeo Calvia and a 15th-place finish today in
Trofeo Andratx. However, he had a remarkable achievement last year, by taking the overall victory in Tour de l'Avenir.
