Bruno Armirail put in an excellent performance this Sunday on stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia 2023, the 35km individual time trial between Savignano sul Rubicone and Cesena. Armirail thus took a relatively surprising 5th place just eight seconds behind the winner Remco Evenepoel.

The French champion against the clock was satisfied with his day. "I finished satisfied with my effort, with all the same disappointment at having come so close to victory. Eight seconds is a lot and not much at the same time over 35 kilometers. I put myself in the shoes of Stefan Küng who came even closer. My performance gives me confidence for the rest of the Giro," said the Groupama-FDJ rider according to team's social media.

Whilst Küng has now abandoned the race in the rest day, more responsibility will lie on the shoulders of the Frenchman as the team searches for a stage win out of this Giro.
