Tre Valli Varesine was conquered by Jarno Widar this Tuesday afternoon in Varese but the race was marked by a serious incident - one that wasn't even captured on camera. Two Pinarello - Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team riders whilst travelling in the opposite direction. But how was that possible?
Few would've known of the event if it weren't for Tom Pidcock of Pinarello - Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. The Briton was the one to reveal to the outside the incident that had happened during the race, with about 'six or seven laps to go'.
The Swiss team was riding at the front of the peloton when a police motorbike took the peloton head on and hit two of the team's riders. It is not clear under which circumstances this happened.
Shortly after the passing of Finlay Tarling due to the intrusion of a vehicle entering the Volta a Portugal course and hitting the Briton head on, tragedy is very fresh in the peloton's head.
But shockingly, Tre Valli Varesine's incident was not the first of the week. Just the day before, TV broadcast showed a vehicle entering the course at the Coppa Bernocchi in bright daylight.

The collision almost didn't make it to the public eye. With no live TV broadcast at the time, not even the fact that the two riders were at the head of the peloton meant that the incident was widely reported on.
"a police motorbike was going the wrong way down the course. And it crashed into two of our guys," Pidcock described. "So from this point... Well first of all I wanted to stop the race. But I stopped racing myself and I was mad. Guys all riding in front of me for me, and two of them on the floor".
Tom Gloag's withdrawal from the race was reported on with just over 100 kilometers to go - the reasons then became clear.
According to Pidcock, Gloag required stitches to the knee after the collision, whilst Spanish national champion Camprubi could continue the race.

But the Spaniard didn't do so unscathed, having shared a picture on Instagram revealing the damage to his bike following the crash.
The Pinarello rider was quite critical of the situation: "Sad that you have to risk your life to race, one month after a tragic accident," he wrote.
The peloton continues to have serious concerns over safety in the sport, with more serious crashes and vehicle infiltrations taking place - on occasion leading to tragic consequences.
