Blow for Soudal - Quick-Step as highly-rated youngster suffers nasty collarbone break

There was disappointment on Monday for Soudal - Quick-Step at the 2025 Antwerp Port Epic. With Tim Merlier forced to settle for 3rd place behind Timo Kielich and Rasmus Wallin, one of the European champion's loyal domestiques was forced to abandon the race after a nasty crash.
22-year-old prospect Gil Gelders is a highly thought of rider within 'The Wolfpack', but now, the Belgian is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken collarbone in his crash in Antwerp.
"Following his crash in Monday’s Antwerp Port Epic, Gil Gelders was taken to hospital where it was revealed that he has suffered a broken collarbone," reads an update on the rider's condition posted to Soudal - Quick-Step's official website. "The Belgian will now visit the hospital in Herentals, where a further assessment and a plan for his recovery will be made. Everyone at Soudal Quick-Step wishes Gil a speedy and health recovery."
