The INEOS Grenadiers have been bright, attacking and just generally good to watch at the 2025 Giro d'Italia so far. Ahead of stage 14 this Saturday afternoon though, the team have been dealt a blow by the abandon of one of their unsung heroes.
29-year-old Colombian Brandon Rivera has been quietly very impressive on his Giro d'Italia debut, taking two top-10 stage finishes and being a key domestique for one of the team's general classification hopefuls Egan Bernal through the course of the opening 13 stages. As announced by the team on social media however, Rivera is not present among the peloton on stage 14.
"Unfortunately Brandon Rivera has become unwell overnight and will be unable to take the start in today’s Giro d'Italia stage," explains a post by the official X (Twitter) account of the INEOS Grenadiers team. "He is under the care of our medical team and we wish him a speedy recovery," they add, something echoed by all associated with CyclingUpToDate.
