Two years on from when
Biniam Girmay made history as the first black African to win a Grand Tour stage, the Eritrean will return to the
Giro d'Italia in 2024 as leader of the
Intermarché - Wanty team.
Taking stage 10 of the 2022
Giro d'Italia ahead of Mathieu van der Poel no less, Girmay captured the attention of a continent with his historic stage win. Now famously, the then-22-year-old celebrated a little too hard on the podium afterwards, injuring himself as he took a champagne cork to the eye and actually being forced to leave the race as a result.
