Terrible news for
Benoît Cosnefroy who suffered a fractured left collarbone after his fall on the fourth stage of the
Renewi Tour. The Frenchman will therefore most likely miss out on the World Championships in Zurich, which would've been a great opportunity for the puncheur to show that his national coach made a mistake to not select him for the Olympic Games.
The stage was quite straightforward, leading to a predicted sprint finale. The tension rose, the trains were put in place. There was a lot of friction, the behavior of some riders was very limited... and then the inevitable happened, a big fall occurred around 20th position, under the flamme rouge. A good ten riders were thrown to the ground. Among them were Benoît Cosnefroy and Mick Van Dijke, who seemed particularly affected.
