The rumour that Benoît Cosnefroy would be a last-minute addition to the World Championships' Road Race was recently said, and with a flight to Australia included it would be very hard to believe otherwise. Today his participation has been confirmed.
Team national coach Thomas Voeckler has officially announced the riders who would be racing in a press conference, with Cosnefroy filling in the spot which has been left by Rémi Cavagna who participated in both Individual Time-Trial and the Mixed Relay TTT. Cosnefroy has won the recent GP de Québec and rode to second at Amstel Gold Race and Brabantse Pijl earlier in the year, putting him in an outsider position for the race.
He will not be France's only weapon however, as the team will count on defending champion Julian Alaphilippe, Romain Bardet, Christophe Laporte, Valentin Madouas and Pavel Sivakov all as cards to play on the hilly circuit.
France for men's World Championships Elite Road Race: Julian Alaphilippe, Bruno Armirail, Romain Bardet, Benoît Cosnefroy, Christophe Laporte, Valentin Madouas, Quentin Pacher, Florian Sénéchal and Pavel Sivakov.
