Thanks to your votes, Canyon//SRAM Racing's Tour de France Femmes champion Katarzyna Niewiadoma has been crowned the 2024 Women's Rider of the Year at the CyclingUpToDate End of Season Awards.
As is the case with all of our awards, your votes decide who wins and this time, it was an incredibly closely fought affair. In the end though, Niewiadoma took the victory ahead of second placed Lotte Kopecky, who retained her World Championship title and finished runner-up at the Giro d'Italia in 2024 among other successes, with Demi Vollering ending up in third place.
Although Niewiadoma impressed early in the 2024 campaign, finishing 4th at Strade Bianche, 2nd at the Tour of Flanders, winning La Fleche Wallonne Féminine and getting a top 5 at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, it was at the Tour de France Femmes where the Pole really came into her own. In one of the most thrilling finales to any Grand Tour in history, Niewiadoma buried herself on the iconic slopes of Alpe d’Huez on the final stage, limiting her losses to Demi Vollering and narrowly doing just about enough to keep hold of the Maillot Jaune and secure a famous Tour de France Femmes victory by a mere 4 seconds.
In total, the Polish sensation took home 37% of the vote in our awards poll. As mentioned, Kopecky finished a close second, securing 31% of votes, whilst Vollering was third down at 13%. The remainder of the vote was then split between Marianne Vos (8%), Kristen Faulkner (6%), Elisa Longo Borghini (5%) and Lorena Wiebes (1%).
Although this was the penultimate in our End of Year Awards, there is still one poll left to be voted on. To cast your vote for the Men's Rider of the Year, from the likes of Tadej Pogacar, Remco Evenepoel, Mathieu van der Poel and others, click the link attached!
