"At this age in cycling, it really means a lot to me" - 37-year-old Alessandro De Marchi rolls back the years with brilliant Tour of the Alps stage win

Alessandro De Marchi has once again proven himself as an expert in the breakaway, taking a brilliant win on stage 2 of the 2024 Tour of the Alps from the breakaway.

Somewhat surprisingly just the 7th win of his career, but it's also the first for De Marchi since moving to Team Jayco AlUla. "It took a lot but I mean, I was confident," he reflected post-stage. "Two years ago I found a new, nice, super environment here with Team Jayco AlUla and in the end, I knew it was just about the moment and the right time. Already last year in the Giro we were there and this year again. With a bit of luck and courage, the time was now."

Mentioning the Giro d'Italia, the vastly experienced Italian isn't guaranteed his spot on the lineup for this year's edition of the race although De Marchi will certainly be hoping a win such as this will surely boost the chances of him getting the nod.

"When you are 38 almost, a win like this is probably one of the most important," concludes De Marchi with a smile. "At this age in cycling, it really means a lot to me."
