“As a sprinter you want to win and we haven’t done that” - Fabio Jakobsen on his disappointing start to the season with his new team

It has been a difficult start to life for Fabio Jakobsen at dsm-firmenich PostNL, as the Dutchman is still yet to take his first win for his new team. His recent second place finish at Danilith Nokere Koerse behind Tim Merlier was the closest that he has come to taking his maiden victory in 2024.

In an interview with In de Leiderstrui, Jakobsen expressed his disappointment at his results this season, as he said “I’m not satisfied. As a sprinter you want to win and we haven’t done that. We learned a lot, but ultimately, you want to win. That’s why I started cycling. All in all, we are doing many things right, but except for Nokere, we didn't even get close. We need to improve, and that’s something the whole team, myself included, are working very hard on”.

The Dutch sprinter is currently set to ride the Tour of Türkiye next month ahead of his debut appearance at the Giro d’Italia in May, with the Baloise Belgium Tour and the Tour de France also on his schedule for later in the season.

Looking ahead to his upcoming races, Jakobsen said “that fire only grows larger. It’s not that I’m frustrated, but it does need to improve. That’s what I’m going to work hard on in the coming period, heading to the Tour of Türkiye and the Giro. I’m in it for the results. I’m nearing top form and hope I will fully get there by Turkey and the Giro. I’m continuing my training in the way it’s been going. My form and stamina are on the rise, so we’ll keep pushing that”.
