Annemiek van Vleuten has been performing poorly in Tour de France Femmes . Movistar rider has now revealed she has been suffering from stomach problems for the last few days.
"I can say I'm on the mend, but I was sick before, and I was able to hide that well yesterday," van Vleuten told NOS. She continues, “It was good to see today. But it is the after-effects. I haven't been able to eat or drink for two days and have only been to the toilet.”
Van Vleuten revealed she has been facing the problem since the tour's first stage. “The problems started right after the first stage. But I'm through it now. But I didn't have this under control. Not eating, not drinking, throwing up, and having diarrhea, I also stopped along the side, which is not very relaxing.”
She says it is not fully cured, but improvement can be seen compared to the last two days. "This morning, I got up well for the first time. I feel a lot better than yesterday. It wasn't too bad today. Yesterday I got through it well because of good teamwork. And this morning, I could already eat and drink again," concluded Van Vleuten. She currently holds 9th position in GC, 1 minute and 14 seconds behind overall leader Marianne Vos.
