Altercation between Vanthourenhout and Mason marks Superprestige Middelkerke - Wyseure and Van Alphen win Noordzeecross
Cycling
The men's Noordzeecross Middelkerke took place this Thursday evening. The second round of the Superprestige Cup saw victories by Joran Wyseure and Aniek van Alphen; whilst an altercation between Michael Vanthourenhout and Cameron Mason highlighted the mid-week event.
The men's race was quite fast, and featured less than an hour in duration. No-one was able to make the difference until late in the race, with the riders mostly trying to avoid errors in the fast and technical track.
Michael Vanthourenhout and Cameron Mason bumped shoulders mid-race, leading to the Belgian coming down. Mason would also fall; whilst Wyseure was also not immune to errors.
In the final laps all riders came together, but the Crelan - Corendon rider once again managed to take a victory this winter with a long strung out acceleration in the front of the group. No-one was able to follow in the wheel. Vanthourenhout and Kevin Kuhn finished on the podium.
Following the finish line, as seen in the video below, Vanthourenhout went over to Cameron Mason and the two had a heated argument, in what proved to be a substantially heated moment in the cold Belgian evening.

In the women's race it was Aniek van Alphen who got the better of the competition. Amandine Fouquenet was the first to attack the race hard, but the Pauwels riders could not hurt the competition in the technical course.
Van Alphen managed to carve out a key gap towards the end of the race, beating Inge van der Heijden and Denise Betsema to take the victory.

- in the team’s defense, Bernal is 29. when he won his first TdF people were talking about him winning a record # of GTs. Where would they be if that crash had never happened. I’m not saying he would compete with Tadej, but he did podium Strade Bianche, and certainly could have won a GT that Tadej wasn’t in.mij05-11-2026

- i dont think he is ready ot win against the top 2 or the 2nd rung of evenepoel, del toro , Almeida. In the third week in the TDF he was very very defensive, no attacks. i think he was exhausted. right now he needs time not the brutal Giro or the intense TDF.abstractengineer04-11-2026
