Alexey Lutsenko withdraws from the Tour de Suisse after illness

In a blow for the Astana Qazaqstan Team, Alexey Lutsenko has been forced to withdraw from the Tour de Suisse after a bout of illness that has effected him over the last couple of days.

Worryingly, with the Tour de France just a matter of weeks away, Lutsenko was one of the first riders out the back of the peloton of stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse as the climbing began. The 30-year-old eventually came home in 41st position, over four and a half minutes down on the stage winner, Mattias Skjelmose.

Also dropping out of the race is Lutsenko's teammate, Vadim Pronskiy. In an official announcement on their Twitter account, the Astana Qazaqstan Team revealed all.

"Unfortunately, Alexey Lutsenko and Vadim Pronskiy won’t start today due to a sickness," the post reads. "We wish both riders a fast recovery!"
