This past Saturday, December 30, during a training session in Murcia, veteran rider Alejandro Valverde suffered an accident that saw him to break his collarbone. The 43-year-old Spaniard retired from professional road cycling in 2022 and took the direction of Gravel and Mountain Bike events.
Valverde was admitted to La Vega hospital after the accident, where the collarbone injury was confirmed, and will be out for several weeks. It remains to be seen whether he will compete in the next event on his calendar, the Spanish Mountain Bike Championships, to be held on February 4, 2024, and the Cape Epic in South Africa in March.
Regarding the beginning of his recovery, Alejandro Valverde is now at home, waiting to undergo an operation which will take place at the Mesa del Castillo hospital in Murcia with the arrival of the New Year.
In the past he has recovered from injuries quickly, however with just over a month to these two goals, it will become difficult for the Spaniard to show himself with his best form.
