Gómez is also proud of his time trial skills and recognizes the effort involved in perfecting this discipline. In addition, he spoke about his outstanding performance in the Vuelta a la Juventud and his solid fourth place overall in the Giro U-23, with two top-10 finishes in the most challenging stages. His ability in the mountains and his capacity to deal with the toughest races are qualities that will surely bring a lot to EOLO KOMETA.
The current season has been a turning point for Gómez, and his performance in the Giro U-23 has given him an extra boost: "The Giro U-23 helped me to gain confidence, to show that the good feelings were becoming a reality. I made a very specific preparation, I went from less to more, it was hard to get into the race but I was getting better and better and to compete in the overall every day I had to be always attentive".
The young Colombian also shared his joy at joining EOLO KOMETA and the positive impression he has had of the team: "I was very happy from the first call when I found out I was coming to this team. I spoke with Giovanni Elena and Ivan Basso, who immediately gave me their confidence. It's a project I've been following for a long time and I like the way they work at the
Alberto Contador Foundation". In addition, Gómez has already had the opportunity to race against the team on several occasions, which allowed him to get a close look at their style and approach.
EOLO KOMETA's sports director, Jesús Hernández, highlighted Gómez's qualities and his growth potential: "Germán is a Colombian talent, who follows the team's philosophy of supporting emerging riders both from the Contador Foundation and from other projects. He is a rider with a lot of quality, capable of winning the Vuelta de la Juventud in Colombia two years in a row and of doing very well in the Giro d'Italia U-23. We hope he grows with us and becomes a great rider. We hope he grows with us and confirms with results everything he is already demonstrating."
