2024 Vuelta a Espana GC Update after stage 9: Ben O'Connor keeps red into rest day as Adam Yates and Richard Carapaz get themselves back in the mix

After an absolute thriller of a day at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana on stage 9, the general classification has been completely shaken up once again. With all said and done however, Ben O'Connor has actually extended his lead after taking 4 bonus seconds at the line.

The star of the stage however was Adam Yates. On the day UAE Team Emirates lost Joao Almeida through Covid, the Brit took a scintillating stage win with a 58km(!) solo that saw him pull back just under four minutes on O'Connor's Red Jersey. 2nd on the day Richard Carapaz also make big moves in the GC with his attack, finishing sandwiched between Yates and the GC, moving up 3rd overall.

Primoz Roglic wasn't at his best today, seemingly suffering on the final climb but nevertheless, the Slovenian retains 2nd overall. Enric Mas was brilliant and attacking on the climbs, but after a sketchy moment on the descent, the Movistar Team leader saw his hard work undone and eventually crossed the line alongside Roglic and O'Connor.

Also in that group were Mikel Landa (5th overall), Florian Lipowitz (6th), Felix Gall (8th), Carlos Rodriguez (9th) and David Gaudu, who completes the top 10.
