Despite on paper, stage 6 of the 2024 Tour de France giving another day of relative rest to the fight for the general classification, the mid stage wind caused worry momentarily, with Tadej Pogacar being left all alone as his UAE Team Emirates companions were caught out.
At about 80 km from the finish line, the formation of some echelons caused a situation of chaos that split the peloton in two, leaving Pogacar all alone in the front group without a single UAE teammate. Team Visma | Lease a Bike tried to take advantage of this, led by Vingegaard, who tried to pull the first peloton to hit UAE Team Emirates. However, the second peloton managed to come back with 70 km to go, saving the blushes for a UAE that got a huge scare.
As already mentioned, Pogacar and UAE managed to save themselves. The Slovenian remains the leader with a lead of 45 seconds over Remco Evenepoel and 50 over Vingegaard, who remain 2nd and 3rd before the first and very important time trial on Friday. Juan Ayuso remains 4th, 1 minute and 10 seconds behind Pogacar.
The rest of the Top 10 is completed by Primoz Roglic, 5th at 1 minute and 14 seconds behind his compatriot, Carlos Rodriguez, 6th, 1 minute and 16 seconds behind the yellow jersey, and Mikel Landa, 7th, 1 minute and 32 seconds behind. Joao Almeida, 8th with the same time as Landa, Giulio Ciccone, 9th at 3 minutes and 20 seconds, and Egan Bernal. 10th at 3 minutes and 21 seconds.
