The cycling world is in mourning after the tragic loss of Íñigo Díaz, a young talent of only 19 years old who competed in the U23 category with the Sima-Cepial Aranako team. The truncated fate of this promising cyclist has shocked the cycling community, leaving an irreparable void in the sport he loved.
The fateful incident, as reported by El Correo, occurred last Thursday afternoon on the A-3138 in Álava, Spain, when a car ran over Íñigo while he was training on the roads near his village. Accompanied by another cyclist, who was preparing for the 2024 season, the young athlete was hit by a vehicle in circumstances that are still under investigation.
The first inquiries point to the fact that the driver of the car may have been dazzled by the sun at the time of the tragic accident, a hypothesis that is being thoroughly examined by the authorities. Despite the efforts to attend to Íñigo at the scene of the accident and his immediate transfer to Txagorritxu hospital in critical condition, unfortunately, his life could not be saved, and on Friday he left this world.
