- The fact that it took the best road rider in the World 6 attempts to win Milano-Sanremo is quite telling. The fact that a climber won it is nothing special - Nibali won it in 2018. It actually took him a similar number of attempts to do so, but unlike Pogačar he was never so close to winning in previous editions. Thus he had the surprise factor. The reason why it took Pogačar so long was because he lost the surprise factor - if he'd had it he'd have won it much earlier
