Alejandro Valverde wins debut in gravel racing as he takes La Indomable

When Alejandro Valverde puts a bib on his back, it's not to take a walk, it's to try to win. And that's what he did today in the first race of his life in the Gravel scene at the La Indomable race in Almeria, Spain.
The rider from Murcia was the leader of the Movistar Team Gravel Squad and won with an uncontested victory after riding with a brutal force right from the start. There was no competition, 'Bala' is still on form.
Since his retirement at the end of last season, Alejandro Valverde has not changed his habits. He has continued to train in the mountains of Murcia as he has done for the last 20 years and he is still in an exceptional shape. We have no doubt that he would be giving a lot of play in the World Tour. He made the decision to retire from road racing, but, given what we've seen, it looks like he's going to be a big player in gravel.
