- Yep, this moment will live in infamy. I watched it live on tv at the time (obviously I knew Van Aert was up the road but didn't know Del Toro hadn't been told) and I was incredulous at the lack of concern by Del Toro at the time when Yates surged away. Now it all makes sense.
- Not sure why there are comments defending cheats. This is one thing (catching doping cheats) the UCI is at least getting right.
- I agree. Yes, Pogi is a natural talent, but he lost the Tour in 2022 and 2023, because UAE didn't see his weakness but Visma did. If UAE did there job, Pogi would probably be a 6 time Tour de France winner.
- "it didn’t surprise me that it was him — without me really being able to say why"- this is the flimsiest of reasons, pure speculation. It would be applicable to all the superstars of cycling because all of them came from nowhere and all of them displayed extraordinary abilities, Pogi the prime among them specifically when he won the TDF in 2020.
- Of all the blowhard cycling commentators, Brian Holm is the blowhardiest. He spent the entire summer criticizing Visma's leadership and tactics, even as they won 3 GTs (Giro, TDFF, Vuelta) and finished 2nd in the other (to arguably the greatest rider of all time). Now he is an expert at detecting dopers after they have been caught because, well, he just knew it.
Surely there is someone better than this to answer the big questions of the day.
- I watched the race and it is pretty obvious Nys was having a subpar day after winning the day before. The mechanical was way overdone by him- his role model must be Remco.
- Wout suffer a lot the last years with heartbreaking injuries. To see Im nailing one of the most prestigious GT stage win , dropping an ultra dominant Pogacar - who really went for it - was an amazing moment, even if that was not the most difficult race to win. The San Remo was also a superb edition this year
- Isaac del Toro = biggest loser of the years / Biggest Team loser of the year UAE - simply they're diabolical at sorting theories & tactics away from Pogacar natural talent
- Or, maybe Lazkano was just unfortune to dine at the same steakhouse Contador had used to
- Rare but am in complete agreement, although for me it shoukd not even have been when Yates had 10s, the DS should have already warned of Yates when HE was bridging across and that WVA was there to pull him through, that way DT would have been ready to jump on his wheel to cancel the WVA threat and at worst create a 4-some with Carapaz.
