Thibau Nys is not having the dream run-up to the Belgian cyclo-cross championship on January 14. The Baloise - Trek Lions rider only finished twentieth in the Duinencross of Koksijde.
"It was a terrible day," he said after the race. "Especially technically. That really went completely wrong. I don't think I was able to take a decent stretch of sand. Then you know it's going to be difficult. Physically it wasn't great either, but I try not to let that get into my head."
According to Nys, the cross in Koksijde requires specific capabilities. "And that's why I'm not going to lose too much sleep over this. It didn't work today, but I think it mainly has to do with my sand abilities. I won't be able to do it justice for the time being," he explains.
The Belgian cyclo-cross championship awaits in Meulebeke next Sunday. "I take it from race to race," Nys beats around the bush. "I want to be at the start in Meulebeke with my best form, and then we will see what is possible."
