"There are still important weeks ahead" - Eli Iserbyt shrugs off defeat in Beringen

Eli Iserbyt was victorious in Beringen last season on the opening Belgian cyclocross event, but could not pull it off again. He put on a strong performance but was surprised by Thibau Nys who managed to outsprint him in the finishing straight.

“If you see his road races, he comes out on top in races like today. Last year's course suited me just a little better but all in all I have a good feeling and I am happy with my performance," Iserbyt shared with Wielerflits after the race. The Pauwels Sauzen - Bingoal rider tried to make the differences in the climbs, specially in the final lap, but he carried a passenger who packed a very strong sprint - which Iserbyt could not match.

“I had a very bad start. I wasn't attentive enough and felt a bit trapped. I wasn't really great in the first half, so I had to come into the race. But I was just too late in the leading group to enter the final as efficiently as possible. Actually I rode the entire race à bloc," he tells.

“There are still important weeks ahead. It was a tough cross to start with, but I think today we have clearly seen what the value ratios are," the Belgian concludes. With an eye on the World Cup, he will already have to be on a good level next week in Waterloo.
