Puck Pieterse victorious in U23 Cyclocross European Championship

Puck Pieterse has won the U23 European Cyclocross Championship. She beat Line Burquier in the final lap and secured victory. This is her second victory of the season.

Marie Schreiber started the race with a nice lead. Others followed her except Shirin van Anrooij who completely missed the timing and was left behind. In the steep and technical descent towards the cobblestones, Backstedt was leading but hit the rocks with her knee and had to let go of the lead.

Pieterse took advantage of this and created a gap. Van Anrooij made a comeback and was well positioned for silver but crashed in the last lap and saw the silver go up in smoke as a result.

Line Burquier tried her best but could not defeat Pieterse and satisfied herself with the silver. Shirin van Anrooij finished third and took the bronze.
