Earlier this week it was reported that Mathieu van der Poel would be flying in to the Besançon World Cup by private jet, and the World Champion confirmed it himself this Friday after the Azencross Loenhout. However not all's bright, as the World Champion's flight has been delayed due to weather conditions.

The trip was around 600 kilometers in length and the Dutchman, having one of the biggest salaries in the peloton - and a starting fee for most cyclocross races which would certainly cover for the price of the flight - looked to use it for the long trip. The French race will have most of the big riders in the cyclocross field, but ironically the rider flying in may be the last to arrive as Het Laatste Nieuws reported that the Besançon Aerodrome could not be used for landing this morning, likely due to dense fog.

The Belgian news outlet also said that van der Poel did eventually land at the nearby Dole-Jura airport at 10:05, 4 hours before the start of his race. The delay does not jeopardize his presence in the race, but it may prevent him from exploring the course beforehand.
