Mathieu van der Poel is no stranger to showing up to cyclocross races in style. Already this week he's arrived at Gavere World Cup in a Lamborghini costing over €500.000; and the World Champion is also flying to the World Cup Besançon this Sunday in a... Private jet.
“Will I travel there with the private jet? Oh, has that been leaked too?” he laughed in words to Wielerflits. “But yes, that is indeed true.” It had been reported earlier that the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider would fly in to his third World Cup race of the winter, where he will be the main favourite to take the win.
In the southeastern part of France, the drive between Loenhout and the city of Besançon would be 600 kilometers. Whilst of course, not all riders would actually be driving in, a flight would still include a longer journey than normal for the French race. Van der Poel will be present but this time around Wout van Aert will not be at the start line, the two should meet again at the Dendermonde World Cup on the 5th January.
