Fem van Empel takes dominant win in Hoogerheide and becomes new World Champion

Fem van Empel has had the home crowd cheering for her in Hoogerheide this weekend, and after taking part in the victorious Dutch team for the Mixed Relay race, she has become the new Elite women's World Champion after a dominant performance.

The slippery conditions made it a tough start to the women's race, with Puck Pieterse sliding and losing position at the start. She had to quickly respond already on the first lap to an attack as Fem van Empel took no time to launch an offensive in the fast track.

The two began riding together, looking very balanced. Lucinda Brand joined them on the 4th lap, with Pieterse taking a small tumble that allowed van Empel to be in the isolated lead once again. This time around however the task became much more complicated as the gap began expending further and further, with Pieterse the lone chaser shortly after.

The race was over if nothing unusual was to happen. Van Empel had the form and kept a very high pace all the way into the finish without comiting any meaningful mistake. Puck Pieterse has ridden to second place on the road and Lucinda Brand completed an all-Dutch podium right behind.
