It was disappointment for
Kevin Vauquelin and
Julian Alaphilippe in the final stage time trial at the 2025
Tour de Suisse on Sunday afternoon. For Vauquelin, the Yellow Jersey was lost to Joao Almeida, whilst Alaphilippe was forced to relinquish his position on the final podium. Afterwards though, as both Frenchmen attempted to cool down from their efforts, the two stars shared a heart-warming moment together.
Vauquelin, clearly somewhat glum after losing the race lead on the final day, was consoled by his compatriot. "Have you seen the week you've had?" Alaphilippe asked the Arkéa - B&B Hotels man with a smile, before trying to reaffirm Vauquelin's impressive performance with some kinds words. "For the
Tour de France, that's brilliant! No worries!"
Attempting to return the favour and cheer up Alaphilippe, Vauquelin then shared some kinds words of his own. "You know you were my idol, don't you?" he asks his
Tudor Pro Cycling Team rival.
In 2024, Vauquelin starred at the Tour de France winning a stage. Alaphilippe himself is expected to return to the Tour this year, after missing the 2024 edition, and if his form in Switzerland this week is anything to go by, another stage win for the former world champion is far from out of the question.
