Wout van Aert likely to race European Championships following Tour of Britain return

Wout van Aert has taken the silver medals in the cyclocross and road World Championships, and is likely racing the Gravel Worlds later this year. However those will not be the only jerseys he will pursue, the Belgian could lead the country's ambitions at the European Championships.

Het Nieuwsblad has reported that this is at the time being a likely scenario. After a summer of preparation towards the Tour de France and World Championships, the Jumbo-Visma now takes some well deserved rest. In a few weeks he will resume competition and most likely at the Tour of Britain, following the preparation path he followed in 2021.

In Britain he can prepare for the Europeans where he's said to be racing both road race and time-trial. He would be a favourite for both events with certainty, the races will take place in Drenthe and the road race will see the riders climb the VAM-berg on several occasions, another route suited to the classics specialists.

Unlike the Worlds the startlist should be a little more modest, however Belgium will continue to have plenty options to play for. The reigning European Champion, Fabio Jakobsen, conquered the title last year in Munich but the pure sprinters will not have the chance to fight again for the title.
