Wout Poels recovers in time to start the Tour of Slovenia and keep his Tour de France dream alive

Wout Poels hopes of returning to the Tour de France for a 10th time seemed to be in doubt after the Dutchman suffered an ill-timed bout of illness that disrupted his training camp.
In some positive news however, the 35-year-old will be at the startline for Bahrain Victorious at the Tour of Slovenia. A positive performance from Poels would go a long way to ensuring he is taken with the team to help support Mikel Landa at the Tour de France.
“I fell ill at a training camp in Tenerife and I am still recovering from it,” said Poels last week on his own podcast, In Koers. “I want to make the Tour a highlight, so then this is extra frustrating. I know what you have to do to be top in the Tour. If you want to go there, the preparation must be top notch.”
“The whole year actually went great, up to and including the Ardennes classics,” Poels continued. “And then the misery starts two weeks before the Dauphiné.”

There are huge numbers of people in similar situations, if there were an easy solution somebody would be making big money out of it. Nerve pain can have many complex origins or be due to complex combinations of reasons. Even if you discover a reason there is not always a solution. Migraines haven’t been solved either. I have had lower back/hip nerve pains on and off for over 30 years, no kind of doctor has ever found a way to reduce, prevent or solve the problem.
