Harrison Wood has completed his first year as a professional at Cofidis, and racing against Jonas Vingegaard in the Critérium du Dauphiné made a special impression on the young Briton. The Dane left all the competitors in the dust, won two stages and took the overall victory. Harrison Wood was 77th.
"When you see a rider like Vingegaard, it's just crazy, if I'm honest. It was the first time that I came back to the bus and felt like: 'What on earth just happened?'. His level was incredible, and you get to experience it up close," the 23-year-old rider tells The British Continental.
Cofidis is known for sticking to French culture, and therefore it can be difficult for young riders from abroad to join the team, says Wood. "It's a fairly French-oriented team, which I think makes it more difficult for foreign riders - you have to speak French to be in the group. Fortunately, I speak French quite well now, so I feel I get on well and fit in with everyone in the team," he tells the British media.
Wood has previously raced for the French club team AVC Aix-en-Provence and the Dutch continental team SEG Racing Academy. Upon turning pro, Wood is still waiting for his breakthrough performance.
