"We will do everything we can to keep the jersey. A third stage victory would be nice" - Jonas Vingegaard continues to dominate at Gran Camino

Jonas Vingegaard has picked up right where he left off at the start of his 2024 season, utterly dominanting the 2024 Gran Camino with his second stage win in three days on Saturday.

“It was a good day for the team with three wins in one day. The fact that they (Marianne Vos and Jan Tratnik, ed.) win Omloop Het Nieuwsblad for women and men is very nice,” laughed the Dane, after his own victory on stage 3 of the Gran Camino, in conversation with Wielerflits.

“It was a tough day, which started cold, but luckily I got a bit warmer at the end. The team kept the break within shooting distance, after which I took my chance. Fortunately, I lasted until the finish," Vingegaard recaps, having soloed to his second straight stage win. “I'd like to say I wanted to do a time trial effort, but that wasn't the case. It felt like that, because I wanted to be as aerodynamic and fast as possible. Only that had nothing to do with the missed time trial.”

Now leading the GC by 1:13 with just one stage to go, things look good for another general classification success for Jonas Vingegaard to kick-off his 2024 season. “All teams are going to watch us. We have to see how we go about it, but we will do everything we can to keep the jersey. A third stage victory would be nice, but we'll see about that tomorrow. We certainly don't take another stage victory for granted.”
