Jonas Vingegaard has continued his incredibly impressive opening to the 2024 season with a blistering solo victory on stage 3 of the 2024 Gran Camino.
With seven men making it into the day's breakaway, as they started the climb of the Alto O Castro de Beiro around 60km from the line, their lead over the peloton was around seven minutes.
That lead didn't last long however and as soon as the big names began to make their moves, the leaders were quickly swallowed up.
There is no bigger name within the peloton at Gran Camino than Jonas Vingegaard and the two-time Tour de France winner, attacked hard and reaching the front of the race alongside Pablo Castrillo into the final 15km.
Soon after, the Dane last his companion in the dust and continued on alone towards another brilliant victory, extending his overall lead in the GC.
He came, He saw, He conquered. Its turning into a teaching masterclass
It was more like the competition considered competing a futility and left him to his devices. The top 10 reads like a B-movie cast. All respect to him for making the most of it but he wasn’t really being tested.
Why is it that the top riders were sleeping knowing full well Jonas would likely attack on that last climb? It was so predictable !
