We analyze the 4 big favorites to win the Velo d'Or 2023: Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Mathieu van der Poel and Primoz Roglic

One of the most prestigious and eagerly awaited awards every year-end in cycling is the Velo D'Or, which honors the best cyclist of the year. In this 2023 edition, the contenders are of high caliber, as always. The favorites are Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Mathieu van der Poel and Primoz Roglic.

Tadej Pogacar (Slovenia):

His victories at the Tour of Flanders, Il Lombardia, Paris-Nice, Fleche Wallone and Amstel Gold Race have established him as one of the most versatile and successful riders of the season. Pogacar has demonstrated his capacity to face varied challenges and his ability to succeed in different types of races. A second-place finish in the Tour de France, however, could penalize him.

Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark):

His victory in the Tour de France for the second consecutive year consolidates him in the great elite. He also triumphed in the Critérium du Dauphiné and Itzulia Basque Country. There is no doubt that he is one of the great favorites, although not winning the Vuelta a España may have penalized him.

Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands):.

Van der Poel has been an unstoppable force in the one-day classics. His impressive victories in Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix, as well as his World Championships road race title, highlight his ability to dominate in one-day races. Van der Poel is the big favorite to take the prize after winning these races.

Primoz Roglic (Slovenia):.

The 3-time Vuelta a España winner has had a solid season. His victories in Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya and Giro d'Italia show his versatility and ability to compete in the Grand Tours. He has also won the Giro dell'Emilia and finished on the podium of the Vuelta a Espana.
