Biniam Girmay finally let himself be heard again during the 2024 Tour de France, winning three sprint stages and the Green jersey. For his team Intermarché - Wanty this was already a historical success but with food comes taste and for 2025, the Belgian WorldTour team would love to win a monument. Ideally thanks to their Eritrean star.
"We always had this feeling, from 2021 to today, that Biniam Girmay can win a Monument," says head coach Aike Visbeek. "And despite his three stage wins in the 2024 Tour de France, we always felt that Biniam Girmay's approach and development should be aimed at preparing him to win a Monument. This is obviously one of the biggest goals for our team in 2025."
In the Belgian team's press release, the Dutch sports director added: "We always want to be competitive in the classics, aim for podiums and play an important role in the Monuments. I am convinced that we can claim the top positions in Paris-Roubaix. We have regularly shone there in the past, placing a rider in the top 10 four times in the last four editions."
Aike Visbeek also expressed his ambition for the Ardennes classics, highlighting the development of certain riders: "I think that with the development of Francesco Busatto, Lorenzo Rota, or Alexander Kamp, we are developing well in this type of race. We also have Louis Barré and Kamiel Bonneu, who are a perfect fit for this type of parcours. On paper, we are therefore stronger than in 2024, even if it is always difficult to say where we will be: perhaps in the Top 3, Top 5 or Top 10. I think the Top 10 seems possible, but we will see when, in the end, there are only around thirty riders left," concludes the Dutch sports director.
