Stage one of the
Volta a Portugal saw the sprinters have their chance today, with
Wildlife Generation Pro Cycling's
Scott McGill storming to the win.
A late attack by two riders from Human Powered Health threatened to take the win, with Joey Rosskopf hanging on in front until two kilometers to go. A crash split the bunch then, but the fast men were towards the front and the dash to the line saw Scott McGill take the stage win.
He beat
Oliver Rees and
Mauricio Moreira to take the first road stage win, whilst Rafael Reis arrived safely in the peloton to keep the yellow jersey.
