VIDEO: Remco Evenepoel able to savour final kilometre after scintillating solo win on season opener

Remco Evenepoel has clearly been working hard during the off-season. The Belgian, Soudal - Quick-Step wasted no time in blowing out the cobwebs, taking victory at the Figueira Champions Classic with a scintillating 55km solo attack.

So far ahead was Evenepoel as he came into the finale that the former Vuelta a Espana winner was able to savour every pedal stroke as he neared the finish line. As he sat up, and used to hand to make a phone-to-the-ear gesture, there was none of his rivals in sight.

Behind Evenepoel, his compatriot, Vito Braet took second from the chasing bunch with Simone Velasco in third.
