VIDEO: Relive some of Peter Sagan's career highlights as his road race career comes to an end

Peter Sagan, one of the greatest riders of his generation will ride the final road race of his career later today at the Tour de Vendee. Before that, we reflect on some highlights of his legendary career.
Tour de France
It's impossible to talk about Peter Sagan without mentioning the Tour de France. The Slovakian was synonymous with the race during the 2010's, weaving his own legacy into the long and storied history of cycling's most famous race. A total of 12 stage wins and a record 7 Green Jersey victories, Sagan consistently lit up the Tour de France, year after year.
After 121 victories, Peter Sagan rides his last professional road race at the Tour de Vendee today.

World Championships
Sagan wasn't just about the Tour de France however, the Slovakian also managed to secure himself three successive World Championship titles. In the video below, take a look at the first of his three Rainbow Jersey wins as he solos to glory in Richmond ahead of Australia's Michael Matthews after a late attack.
Sagan would back up the Richmond victory with two more World Championship wins in both Doha and Bergen, asserting his dominance as the Premier one-day racer of his age.

Whilst his form and his interest in road racing has undoubtedly waned in recent years, for a variety of reasons, Sagan will be a big miss for the peloton in 2024.
One of the sport's great characters, Sagan revolutionised the punchy-sprinter style, getting the ball rolling for the likes of Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel to follow.

Like every other day except the ITT, strong riders have to count on a team just in case, that collaboration/organisation/strategy is best tested during a TTT where there is no-one else to take advantage of. Cycling is always defined as a team sport, we should remember that when placing too much focus on only looking at the strong riders. Otherwise, help the Saudi start a rival Tour, solo no team (no drafting would make it too boring for spectators so not really solo). - Only what a few of them (and one or two sports personality managers) have told me about it wrt riding with strangers but hey, everyone is capable of lying, just as everyone is capable of writing illegal or worthless contracts. - In other news, the leader of Team USA sues his team for showing paying fans and spectators his finances thereby potentially making fans and spectators pay even more for knowing what theyâre paying for.
