Although UAE Team Emirates had been doing the work for much of the day, Israel - Premier Tech stole all the plaudits on the opening stage of the Volta a Catalunya 2024 with a piece of tactical brilliance.
The final sprint saw an uphill finish but as the bunch neared, Nick Schultz launched an attack from a kilometre out as teammate, Stephen Williams let the wheel go. As chaos ensued behind, Schultz kept the power down and despite a late move from Tadej Pogacar, narrowly managed to hold on for victory, with Williams actually taking third himself.
