Alejandro Valverde finished fourth in the last Gravel World Championship won by Matej Mohoric. The Spaniard was with the leading group until Paul Voss was cut off when he was behind him in a narrow section that made it impossible for him to overtake him. Then Mohoric, Florian Vermeersch and Connor Swift, who would end up on the podium, got away from him. It was then impossible for him to recover.
Now we have seen a video from Radio Gravel in which the Movistar Team rider tells what happened to him while assuring that he had the legs to go with them without any problem:
"Paul Voss got cut off and left me cut off and that's when the three of them went. I couldn't pass him.
'They don't let him go, he's going like a shot,' Movistar told him after the test: 'No, no, he was going very well'.
