UCI World Tour Teams Ranking Update: UAE stay clear at the top as Worlds boost Jayco AlUla and shake up relegation battle

The World Championships in Montreal have brought several changes to the UCI teams ranking, with the biggest movements concentrated away from the very top of the classification. UAE Team Emirates - XRG remain comfortably in first place, but Team Jayco AlUla were the major beneficiaries of the points scored in Canada, climbing two positions to 12th.

The Australian team’s rise was driven by an exceptional World Championships for its two main scorers. Michael Matthews finished second behind Brandon McNulty in the elite men’s road race, while Mauro Schmid also produced a strong result in 11th. Together, the pair gave Jayco a substantial points boost and helped the team move ahead of both EF Education-EasyPost and Movistar Team.

Matthews’ silver medal was particularly significant. The Australian survived a 273-kilometer race packed with attacks and then won the sprint for second place, finishing ahead of Mathieu van der Poel. Schmid was also part of the late battle for the medals before eventually taking 11th.

As a result, Jayco moved from 14th to 12th, while EF Education-EasyPost dropped to 13th and Movistar Team to 14th. The margins are extremely tight in this section: Jayco now have just over eight points on EF, while Movistar remain within striking distance of the teams immediately ahead.

The Montreal results did little to alter the established order at the top of the team classification. UAE Team Emirates XRG retain first place on 29,446.96 points, with Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe second and Team Visma | Lease a Bike third. Decathlon CMA CGM Team and Lidl-Trek complete the top five.

UAE’s advantage was strengthened by McNulty’s world title, while several other teams also collected significant points through their riders’ performances in Montreal. Lidl-Trek, for example, had Quinn Simmons in fourth, Mads Pedersen sixth and Giulio Ciccone ninth, while Visma had Matteo Jorgenson in eighth.

But those results were not enough to change the order among the leading teams, where the accumulated totals have created substantial gaps. The more significant consequences came lower down, where much smaller differences separate teams.

Lotto Intermarché were the biggest losers among the teams around the WorldTour cutoff, falling three places to 18th.

Their position is particularly important because the current three-year WorldTour licensing cycle runs from 2026 through 2028. The teams are accumulating points throughout the period, meaning that the current classification is only an early stage of the battle, but every result contributes to the eventual total.

Lotto now sit on 9,020 points, with Cofidis just behind on 8,837.03. Groupama-FDJ United are 20th with 8,520.59.

That leaves only around 500 points separating 18th from 20th, creating a much tighter contest than the standings at the top of the table. The movement of NSN Cycling Team and Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team has also contributed to the changing order in this part of the classification, with NSN climbing two places to 16th and Pinarello-Q36.5 moving up one to 15th.

Further down the classification, Team Picnic PostNL continue to hold 30th place (2,517 points), but the teams immediately behind them - Li Ning Star (2,347 points) and Euskaltel-Euskadi (2,223 points) - are closing in fast.

This fight is critical because, under UCI regulations, finishing inside the top 30 of the World Ranking is the strict prerequisite for Grand Tour wildcard eligibility. While a top-30 finish does not guarantee an automatic entry, dropping to 31st or lower completely disqualifies a team from receiving an organizer invitation to the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, or Vuelta a España next season.

With the calendar moving toward its final weeks, the remaining Italian classics offer another opportunity for teams to add points. The effect will be most noticeable in the tightly packed sections of the classification, where relatively small hauls can produce several changes in position.
