UCI Riders Ranking: Pogacar remains on top; Isaac del Toro and Jasper Philipsen win big

The Vuelta a España 2026 is underway, although the points earned by riders in the Spanish Grand Tour will not yet be official in the UCI ranking. We’ll have to wait until the race finishes on Sunday, 13th September, for its results to be added to the standings. As a result, the new weekly update brings few major changes, with the main movement coming from the Renewi Tour and the Deutschland Tour.
The UCI top 5 remains unchanged. Isaac del Toro’s victory at the Deutschland Tour adds valuable points, but not enough to disrupt the front of the pack. The Mexican holds his position inside a group still led by the ranking’s number one, while the first five remain in the same order as the previous update. No one is getting close to Tadej Pogačar at the top.
The headline shift inside the top 10 is Jasper Philipsen leapfrogging Tom Pidcock. The Belgian made the most of his Renewi Tour, where he dominated with multiple stage wins and sealed the overall classification. That haul lifts him above the Briton and into sixth in the world.
The big loser in the top 10 is Mathieu van der Poel. The Dutchman, runner-up at last year’s Renewi Tour, drops four places and slips out of the top 10 as a result of losing those same points. His slide triggers a domino effect, with Lenny Martínez, Felix Gall, Mads Pedersen, and Mauro Schmid each moving up one spot.
Aranburu climbs 11 places
There are notable moves outside the top 10 as well. One standout is Alex Aranburu, who finished second at the Tour du Limousin behind Ewen Costiou. The result lifts him 11 places to a provisional 52nd in the world ranking.
The biggest jump inside the top 100 belongs to Jenno Berckmoes. The Lotto Intermarché rider delivered an outstanding Renewi Tour, with a stage win and second overall. His performance translates into a spectacular rise of 41 places, up to 65th in the world.
At the other end sits Arnaud De Lie, who drops nine places to 27th. The Belgian won the Renewi Tour in 2025, but this year he had to abandon, which explains his significant slide in the standings.
Tim Merlier also loses ground, down five spots after an under-par showing in a sprinter-heavy race. Another big mover is Orluis Aular for Movistar Team, up 24 places and into the top 100 as well.

- anytime a very dominant rider is someone willing to take on a leadership role on behalf of the peloton, he’s referred to as a patron. just being the best rider, even by a wide margin, isn’t enough. it has to be someone with a personality that is strong and assertive enough to LEAD. hinault, definitely. armstrong was a patron. everybody hated him and he hated them right back, but he was definitely a leader/tyrant/patron. indurain was a beast and everyone liked him, but NOT a patron.OCexile25-08-2026
