In a new update provided by Raúl Banqueri, the UCI points rankings have finally seen big changes. What had so far been a hand-in-hand battle between UAE Team Emirates and Jumbo-Visma for first spot has now changed significantly.

Since the last update, the difference has now grown to almost 2400 points, a very meaningful difference which was in great part caused by Tim Wellens' win at the Renewi Tour. However the consistency of UAE in multiple races, and their focus on the current packed classics period, see them take up the top spot and finally create a meaningful difference. At the Vuelta a Espana they match the Dutch team in having three riders close to the top, and with Tadej Pogacar also aiming for the season finale classics, it will be a hard gap to close.

Towards the middle of the standings there aren't meaningful changes, and plenty teams continue in a close battle for the final maintenance spots. Only at the end of 2025 will the math be made, but all these teams have to be very much alive to the possibility that they have to change plans in the future. As it stands Cofidis, Movistar Team, Team Jayco-AlUla, Israel - Premier Tech, Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, AG2R Citroën Team and Team DSM-Firmenich sit separated by less than 800 points, with the latter in 18th spot.

In the relegation zone remain two teams, Arkéa Samsic and Astana Qazaqstan Team, they sit around 2200 and 2900 points behind DSM approximately. A large gap, which shows no signs of being cut in any way this year. 2024 will be a critical year for both teams who need to somehow increase their scoring significantly, because if the gap remains the same into 2025 it is very likely that they will both be relegated - Lotto Dstny's 2022 season being a good example, where they were the sixth best team but could not close the gaps that had been opened the years before.

UCI ranking analysis! The situations of Arkéa and Astana are starting to be worrying, even if there are more than two years left to come back. Uno-X and Total will compete for wildcards to the 2024 WorldTour classics. Olympic rankings at the end of the article 👇
